I took this picture (above) from the balcony of the Capitol theatre. For some reason it has an unusual texture which I really like. The building across the road is the post office where we have our LiPAF offices on the first floor. The parking lot in front of the post office is always a hub of activity for buses, trucks, cars, and people. (You can click on any pictures in the blog to enlarge them)
We opened “African Shoes” at the Capitol on Friday Sept 4th and will now be performing every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Our first audience wasn’t very big but we are working on some group promotions for the upcoming weeks.
This picture (below) is of some of the cast outside the dressing room which is under the stage. They were rehearsing some of their songs.
The work in the theatre was hectic during the past week as Peter hung the black curtains from the high ceiling to create the exits and entrances. Marilyn was busy every day getting the show ready, helping with the curtain arrangement, and working with the lighting technician. It was really nice to be be in a theatre at last. We’ll take some pictures of our next show for the blog.
We’ve had a fun time with our volunteers – Lucy and Rachel. They are not in their last week of their five week stay and we are going to miss them terribly. They have been really helpful to us and have fit in so well with everyone. Last night we went out to dinner together and then to Tjisse’s lodge so they could say goodbye to the Tjisse and the boys. They have been working on a blog posting so watch for it.
On Sunday, Lucy and Rachel took all the kids from the compoud on the farm to Victoria Falls. they arrived at our house an hour early and all dressed up for the trip. These kids have been coming over every day and we always take some time to play with them.
When they got back from the Falls, I hooked up the hose and sprinkler to water the grass and all the kids enjoyed running through the water.
That same afternoon, Addmore (our Marimba player) arrived with two miniature marimbas he made for Lucy and Rachel. He was accompanied by three others and they put on a performance of their a capella songs.
Here’s a few pictures from our last music jam at the golf course restaurant. I got to dance with the guys and sing Cover of the Rolling Stone with Marilyn.
I took a drive to see the progress on the Maramba Cultural Centre Theatre and was pleasantly surpised to see the roof almost completed with thatching. The Permanent Secretary and the Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs are visiting the theatre later this week and apparently want to see it finished by the middle of October. They are also planning to attend our show at the Capitol.
The crop at the farm is doing well despite us having lost a lot to the elephants a few weeks ago. This month we should have lots of produce for sale.
If you look to the right of this picture (below) you can see where the field has been burned. The grasses are all very dry now and fires are buring all around Livingstone. Most are controlled but we don’t know who set this one at the farm. Fortunately it didn’t do any damage although we heard it was quite a blaze.
Next week, I should have some good news on our borehole project which got delayed but is now back on track.
